Sanchez wins Zurich ProTour race

Samuel Sanchez Samuel Sanchez of Spain earned the first major one-day win of his career on Sunday with victory in the Zuri Metzgete ProTour cycle race in Zurich.

The Euskaltel team leader broke away from the lead group of five 12km from the end of the rain-soaked race.

Australia's Stuart O'Grady finished second, 29 seconds behind, and Davide Rebellin of Italy was third.

"I'm very happy because now I've shown that I'm a classics rider and can win the big one-day races," said Sanchez.
