Boonen to ride in Tour of Britain

Tom Boonen World champion Tom Boonen has confirmed he will compete in this year's Tour of Britain which begins on 29 August.

The Belgian, 26, pulled out of the Tour de France on Tuesday after leading for three days earlier in the race.

Boonen, a stage winner in the 2004 Tour of Britain, will compete for Quickstep, who won last year's team event.

"It's great that he wants to ride the Tour of Britain again. It will be fantastic for the British public," said Tour director Tony Doyle.
