Cabrera joins elite fielding club

Cleveland second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera made a rare unassisted triple play, recording all three outs in the fifth inning of a 3-0 loss to Toronto.

Cabrera dived to catch a Lyle Overbay line drive, stepped on second base to retire Kevin Mench, then tagged Marco Scutaro in one continous sequence.

It was only the 14th unassisted triple play in Major League history, with the most recent coming in 2007.

There was a 41-year gap between the seventh in 1927 and eighth in 1968.

"As soon as they both took off for the double steal and he (Overbay) hit a line drive, I knew I had a chance for a triple play," said Venezuelan Cabrera through an interpreter.
