Tynes nets new deal with Giants
Scottish kicker Lawrence Tynes has secured his place in the New York Giants squad for next season.
The 29-year-old, who was one of the stars of the Giants victory in Super Bowl XLII in February, has been handed a five-year deal, worth around £3.5m.
He claimed five points as the Giants upset the New England Patriots 17-14 to claim the NFL Championship.
For the first time in his NFL career, Greenock-born Tynes will not have to fight for his job in training camp.
"We have to be smart," said Giants special teams coordinator Tom Quinn.
"Obviously, we are not going to take an extra kicker or an extra punter, so we have to be very smart with keeping them on a count."
The one-time Scottish Claymore joined the Giants in a trade from the Kansas City Chiefs in May 2007 but got off to a rough start in New York, missing three short kicks in his first eight starts.
However, he nailed a 47-yard field goal in overtime in the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers to send his team to the Super Bowl.
