Mixed day for GB rowers

Britain's rowers endured mixed fortunes on Wednesday at the Olympic regatta.

Katherine Grainger and Cath Bishop won their repechage to make it to the pairs final, while Sarah Winckless and Elise Laverick did the same in the sculls.

There was disappointment for Ian Lawson who finished third in his single sculls semi-final, while Toby Garbutt and Rick Dunn also failed in the men's pairs.

The men's eight came third in their repechage while Matthew Langridge and Matthew Wells failed in the sculls.

There was controversy in the men's coxless pairs when Canada were thrown out of the competition for steering into a the South African boat as the two crews raced for the finish line.

The countries were level when the incident happened.

South Africa will go into the final after initially finishing fourth.

On Tuesday, Helen Casey and Tracy Langlands made it to the the women's lightweight double sculls repechage along with the men's quadruple sculls quartet.

But Britain's men's lightweight fours were eliminated after only finishing fourth in their repechage heat.

In the quadruple sculls, Simon Cottle, Alan Campbell, Peter Gardner and Peter Wells finished third in their repechage heat to reach the semi-finals.

But in the lightweight fours, the campaign of Mike Hennessy, Tim Male, Nick English and Mark Hunter is over after finishing fourth in their repechage heat.
