Dahle's mountain bike glory
Norway's Gunn-Rita Dahle won the women's mountain bike cross-country gold medal on Mount Parnitha in the Olympics on Friday.
Marie-Helene Premont of Canada took the silver and Germany's world champion Sabine Spitz came away with the bronze.
Danish racer Mette Andersen had to pull out after being attacked by a bee.
She was stung on the second lap of the five-lap race and had a bad reaction. The left side of her chest swelled up and she had to seek medical attention.
Dahle, 31, was the race favourite after winning all five of the
World Cups she has started in this year.
She completed the five-lap 31.3km course in one hour 56 minutes 51 seconds to beat Premont by 59 seconds.
"I fell once and I damaged the gears which slowed me down a bit," Dahle said.
"I had to get off the bike and push on some of the steepest parts of the course."
It was Norway's third gold medal of the Athens Olympics.
