Wish good luck to Redgrave and the boys

Steve Redgrave
Steve Redgrave is on the brink of Olympic immortality, with a record fifth gold medal in sight.

Send him and the rest of the coxless four team your good luck messages ahead of Saturday's final.

Have Your Say

Redgrave's place in the British sporting hall of fame is assured - and an unprecedented fifth straight title will secure the Henley-based rower's status as a genuine Olympic legend.

Just how great has he been?

This is no one-man show, however. Matthew Pinsent, Redgrave's partner in the coxless pairs in 1992 and '96, is aiming for a third gold to enhance his reputation as one of Britain's best ever Olympians.

And Tim Foster and James Cracknell also deserve their place in the sun after a superb effort complementing their illustrious team-mates through a rocky four-year campaign.

Send us your tributes to the "Oar-some foursome" now.

Back in 1981 I was at Walton Small Boats Head resting inside before my division. My coach dragged me and my pairs partner outside to watch a couple of Marlow 18-year-olds in their double. He said "See that Steve Redgrave? Now that's how to scull". I find it amazing that 20 years later Steve is still at the very top. Good luck to all the Brits in the rowing finals, especially the four.
Julia Stowell, GB living in US

I think the whole of the country will be staying up to watch the race
Paula Wilde, England

We wish the whole British team (all crews) the very, very best.
Sally Watson, Scotland

As a true Brit living in Portugal, please give us something to tell our Grandchildren about. We watched true legends win Gold. That feat will never be surpassed. Ever. Come on boys!
Alex Holmes, Portugal

I have been rowing for the last three years now having "found" the sport slightly later in life than many. Every time my crewmates & myself see Steve & the crew on the water whether it be via TV or actually on the Thames, we are inspired. Their easy technique & power is fantastic to watch, and if we have had a bad outing, it makes us pick ourselves up and try to strive for the best in ourselves. We wish the whole British team (all crews) the very, very best.
Louise Hunt, England

Best of luck to the coxless four team: sitting in front of the TV is the only place to be this Friday night!
Sally Watson, Scotland

To think that I was only eight years old when Steve Redgrave first struck gold. And that he has dominated his field ever since like the true sporting titan that he is. Go for it boys. Your place in sporting history is already assured.
Tom Jennings, England

I'll be burning the midnight oil to witness what I'm sure will be a truly historic sporting achievement - for all the boys.
Mike Deacon, Great Britain

Good Luck Guys - there'll be a gang here in the Southwest of Ireland shouting you on to Olympic History this weekend.
Donal Ryan, Ireland

Never mind about Steve - what about Matt who's on a hatrick and Tim and James for whom Gold would be the pinnacle of their careers. Only kidding Steve! I'll be burning the midnight oil to witness what I'm sure will be a truly historic sporting achievement - for all the boys.
Mike Deacon, Great Britain

Good Luck to Steve and the boys...do it for Britain. From a homesick Pom keeping the Union Jack flying in Melbourne.
Pam, Australia

Good luck lads, especially Redgrave. From a fellow diabetic, I think that what you have achieved above the Golds (and imminent Gold) is to show that diabetes can be overcome through dedication, hard work and being sensible. Good luck on Saturday.
Jason Myers, England

I would also like to say how you have made my friends and I hot under the collar in your lovely lycra suits! Gerri Tyler, England

I would like to wish you all the best for the final, on Friday. I have followed your progress with daily TV highlights. I would also like to say how you have made my friends and I hot under the collar in your lovely lycra suits!
Gerri Tyler, England

Please, please, for the entire world, do it!
Jonathan Tilney, UK

Steve you are the ultimate Olympian, but let's not forget Tim, James and Matthew. You truly are the "REAL" awesome foursome.
Philip Levy`, UK

We live just 5 doors away from Steve in Marlow Bottom. We decorated his drive with gold balloons after Atlanta. Is it now time to order a new supply? Best of luck to the whole crew!
Mike and Gill Williams, Great Britain

To the 'OARSOME FOURSOME', Guys, do what you do best.... WIN! Just to let you know that the whole of Kingston Rowing Club will be in the bar glued to the television set watching the event as it unfolds with a couple of filled pewter tankards (from a fairly successful season!) willing you to row like you can. Because if you do...nobody will touch you! Very best of luck,
Rob Walker, England, London

Steve you are the ultimate Olympian, but let's not forget Tim, James and Matthew.

Marlyn Robertson, Great Britain (Scotland)

Come on boys! You are true British heroes.
Jane, Australia

Good Luck lads! It has been a joy to watch your first two races you were completely in control through out. The dedication, commitment, and effort you have shown to reach this stage is truly amazing and you are all a great inspiration to me as I'm sure you are to countless others around the world. Bring home the Gold and makes us even more proud of you than we already are. GOOD LUCK!

Fiona, England

On behalf of everyone at Henley Rowing Club we wish you every success in the Final and we look forward to seeing you back on the reach as Champions- Good Luck
Cliff Blakeway, G.B

We know who the true oarsome foursome are - the Brits! Not those silly Australian rowers who put bunches of bananas and grapes on their heads to appear in a TV commercial over here in Sydney for fruit salad!
Penny, Australia

My friends and I will be giving up the usual trip to the pub this Friday to watch what will hopefully be a truly GREAT BRITISH moment!
Fiona, England

As someone diagnosed with Type I Diabetes in adult life (at 25 - 4 years ago)I can't help but admire Steve Redgrave. It's so easy with this illness to lay down and let it take over your life and, in my opinion, that's largely what the medical profession expect you to do as it makes their life easier. Like you, I refuse to let other people tell me what I should do, think, feel eat or let other people look upon me with pity. You really are an inspiration and show that you're not a label - a "diabetic" (which is something I refuse to be called) but a PERSON who happens to have Diabetes. Big psychological difference there! Anyway, good luck, I shall probably cry when you get us that wonderful gold!
Karen Chilvers, GB

If support really does count, you will win. We are all rooting for you. Good luck guys
Ron Davie, Scotland

We'll be pulling with you! Wishing you the very Best of British from the Admin Team P & T Norfolk County Council
Sylvia Hughes, Gt Britain

You make me proud to be British!
Natasha, UK

I rowed for my college and know what hard work it can be - it's been your life's work so I wish you your just reward.
Vicky Banham, UK

No matter what happens - we're very proud of you all.
Fiona James, UK

You are an inspiration to so many people. Good luck to all four of you. This will be the most celebrated Gold medal.
Alex Kittermaster, England

Special warm wishes to you and the guys from all your many friends in Henley. We are looking forward to welcoming you home!
Jan, Henley, England

A big thank you for raising the profile of rowing in the UK, and Good Luck for the final from a former member of Henley Rowing Club!
Kay Dawson, UK

Good luck guys!! You can guarantee that Britain will be cheering you on with each and every oar stroke! No matter what happens - we're very proud of you all.
Fiona James, UK

Special warm wishes to you and the guys from all your many friends in Henley
Jan, Henley, England

Great Britain has already done better in Sydney than in Atlanta but the one gold everyone hopes for is in the coxless fours. Good luck
Mark Hall, Great Britain

The very best of luck for the final, I will be willing you on every stroke all four of you take, from my armchair back here in Claygate. Go get 'em lads
Carol Wadham, UK

All the best lads. We're all rooting for you back at home. Just think of England.
Stephen Whitehouse, England

Go for it! The whole country is behind you.

Sam, Australia

Good luck Steve and the boys from all at the British High Commission in Canberra. We're right behind you!
Adrian Bell, Australia

You're a champion among men for all you have achieved especially with your diabetes but you have one more hurdle so do your self justice and get your self one more gold all the best good luck.
Craig Wilson, England

I have never been so involved in a sporting event before. Having watched the compelling and inspirational 'Going for Gold' I want you all to win so badly. You looked on great form in the semis. I'll be cheering you on all the way on Saturday.
Jane, Great Britain

Good luck Steve and the boys from all at the British High Commission in Canberra. We're right behind you!
Adrian Bell, Australia

All the best for the finals! The hopes of a nation rest on your oars!

The hopes of a nation rest on your oars!
Alex Bradshaw, UK

Watched you cruise through like true champions in the Semi-final last night. May your race on Saturday be as impressive as the style, commitment and tenacity you have shown in your preparation and dedication to your sport. Good Luck
Sandra McCarthy, Britain

Do not ask me why I just have a gut feeling that Steve and the boys are going to win gold. And when they do Steve will have done something that I personally think will NEVER be achieved by anyone else ever. I also have a funny feeling that when the boys win gold, it will be Sir Steve Redgrave
Darren Jacques, England

Steve and the team We are all behind you, wish we could be there to see you and the team make history. Gold is the colour, but do your best and we will be proud whatever the result. The best of British from,Hong Kong.
Stuart Doig, Hong Kong

Best of luck for Saturday - you have the whole country behind you!
James Matcham, England

My family has been following your progress for a long time now and we are with you all the way.
Linda, UK

As a rower myself (at a much lower level), I know too well how hard it is to maintain the level of fitness required. Steve has done this for 16 years - respect! The other guys are all fantastic athletes - TEAM OF THE YEAR, SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR. All the best guys!
Tony Simmons, UK

For me, you guys are what these Olympics are all about - you're head and shoulders above the rest - and that includes the 'thorpedo'!. Steve, quite why it's taken four golds and the prospect of a fifth to get the recognition and attention you deserve I don't know and that goes for Matthew too. I can't wait for you all to do the business this weekend and hope that you do make it awesome!!!
Peter Marshall, UK

Just a note to wish you all well in the final. My family has been following your progress for a long time now and we are with you all the way. Once again the best of luck. Bring home GOLD.
Linda, UK

Good luck lads.... You're a class act, and probably England's only truly dominant sports force. You will win Gold because you are far and away the best. Make us proud to be British...it's in your hands!
Mark Smith, England

Good luck lads, you've inspired me to take up Rowing...see you in Athens 2004
Will, GB

There will be millions of Brits yelling at their TVs late on Friday night. If you listen hard enough you'll hear us. "GO ON LADS!" P.S. No pressure!
Neil Goble, UK

Good luck lads, you've inspired me to take up Rowing...see you in Athens 2004 (I like to row at no. 3)
Will, GB

Good luck lads. You have made us proud in the past, and you will do again. Bring home that gold medal and carry on the wonderful success of the British Team during these games. Best of British to each of you.
Gareth Barnes, England

Best of good luck. We shall all be sitting up and shouting you home. We know you can and will do it.
Penny Winstanley, England
