Mindorashvili wins wrestling gold

Georgia's Revazi Mindorashvili took the men's 84kg freestyle wrestling gold medal with victory over Yusup Abdusalomov of Tajikistan in the final.

A tiring Abdusalomov had to settle for silver with Ukraine's Taras Janko and Russia's Georgy Ketoev claiming bronze.

In the 96kg category, Shirvani Muradov won Russia's sixth wrestling gold by beating Kazakhstan's Taimuraz Tigiev.

Artur Taymazov of Uzbekistan triumphed in the 120kg, overcoming Russia's Bakhtiyar Akhmedov.

Mindorashvili, the 32-year-old former world champion, recovered well after narrowly losing the first period to dominate Abdusalomov, who seemed to tire.

The Georgian took the second period with three takedowns, while adding two pushouts and a takedown in the third.

"I didn't reveal my entire arsenal of moves but I'm very happy with my performance"

Janko scored two pushouts and a takedown without reply to defeat Serhat Balci of Turkey, while world champion Ketoev scored the last two points of his match with Germany's Davyd Bichinashvili to snatch victory.

Following the gold medal match, Abdusalomov collapsed on his way to a news conference. The wrestler tried for 20 minutes to regain his strength but was led away for medical monitoring.

Muradov, meanwhile, beat Tigiev 3-0 and said: "I didn't reveal my entire arsenal of moves and I didn't fight to my full 100% capacity but, nonetheless, I'm very happy with my performance."

George Gogshelidze of Georgia and Khetag Gazyumov of Azerbaijan won the bronze medals.

In the 120kg, Taymazov claimed his second Olympic gold medal following his triumph at Athens 2004, while the 29-year-old also took silver four years earlier in Sydney.

He appeared to have little difficulty putting his greater experience to effect to score technical points over the young Russian Akhmedov, 21, who was world junior champion in 2007.

Slovakia's David Misulbes and Kazakhstan's Murad Mutalimov won the bronze medals.
