Tucker named in GB triathlon team

Helen Tucker and Tim Don

World champion Helen Tucker and Tim Don have been included in Britain's five-strong triathlon Olympic squad.

Also selected are Will Clarke, the top Brit at last year's Games test event in seventh place, Alistair Brownlee and 18-year-old Hollie Avil.

Following her World Championships win a month ago, Tucker said: "I have had a great year so far and I'll be looking to carry my form into Beijing."

Don, 30, competing at his third Games, said: "I am aiming for the podium."

"Tucker will go to the Olympics full of confidence, but can she bring back gold from Beijing?"

It has been a remarkable year for Northampton's Avil. The world and European junior triathlon champion has been focusing on her A-levels as well as her triathlon training.

At the start of the year, she only expected to be in Beijing as part of the BOA's 2012 Olympic Ambition Programme, but admitted: "Now that I am going as an athlete, I certainly want to make the most of it."

Heather Williams, GB's triathlon team leader, said: "We have prepared meticulously for the Olympics and will go to Beijing knowing that we are in the best position to bring back Britain's first triathlon medal."
