Zimbabwean breaks backstroke mark
Zimbabwean swimmer Kirsty Coventry broke the world record for the women's 100m backstroke in her semi-final swim at the Water Cube in Beijing.
Coventry shaved 0.20 seconds off the previous best, with a mark of 58.77s, describing it as "a great swim".
The 24-year-old will attempt to translate her record performance into gold in Tuesday's final.
On Sunday, Coventry won Africa's first medal in Beijing, taking silver in the 400m individual medley.
