Synchro duo named in Olympic team

Olivia Allison and Jenna Randall

British synchronised swimmers Olivia Allison and Jenna Randall have been chosen for the Beijing Olympics after winning their qualification tournament.

The duo excelled at the National Aquatics Centre in Beijing last weekend to finish one point clear of Belarus.

Allison, 18, and 19-year-old Randall will compete in the duet in what is the first Olympics for either woman.

It will be the first time since 1992 that Great Britain has been represented in Olympic synchronised swimming.

Allison said: "I'm really happy to have been selected for the Olympics. It will be my first, and to be involved in such a prestigious event is an honour.

"This will be a great experience and will be a stepping stone as we look towards London 2012."

National performance director Biz Price praised the pair's performance in Beijing.

"I'm very pleased with how Olivia and Jenna have done," she said.

"In terms of performance, we were ahead of the other competing nations.

"Being able to swim in front of a full-capacity crowd in the centre would have been a good experience for them."
