Fell in 'best form of her life'

Devon-based modern pentathlete Heather Fell believes she is in the best form of her life as she prepares for the Beijing Olympics next month.

Fell, who is ranked fourth in the world and came second at this year's European Championships, told BBC Spotlight she is on the top of her game.

"I'm going to go there in the perfect form, the best form of my life, and see what I can do on the day," she said.

The five-event pentathlon takes place on Friday, 22 August.

The 25-year-old believes the competition for a medal will be fierce.

"I'd say within the field of 36, there's 10 to 15 girls who are capable of medalling and I'm definitely one of those."

Modern pentathletes face a gruelling day of events starting with pistol shooting before fencing, a 200m freestyle swim, show jumping and then a 3,000m cross-county run.

Fell thinks fencing is the event she has to work most on getting right before the Olympics.

"It's my most variable of all the five. Some days my fencing's up there with the best and other days I'm at the bottom of the field.

"My aim at the moment is to try and even it out and make it as consistent as possible."
