British men end up in fifth place

Great Britain's men finished fifth - their best showing in 20 years - after scoring all their goals in the second-half in a 5-2 victory over South Korea.

Barry Middleton poked the ball beyond the keeper to give Britain the lead, only for Jong Hyan Jang to equalise.

Goals from Ashley Jackson, Jonty Clarke (2) and Glenn Kirkkham ensured Hye Sng Hyun's strike was mere consolation.

GB captain Ben Hawes said: "I just hope we can keep the majority together for the next four years."

Great Britain won gold in Seoul in 1988 but have struggled since.

Hawes continued: "Before the game we had a long chat on the pitch and spoke about what it meant to be top-six in the world and what we have been through over the last 12 months together.

"It is proven that those squads who keep together over a double cycle make it into semi-final and medal games."

Performance director David Faulkner added: "They have clearly demonstrated that the fifth place in the World Cup two years ago was not a one off.

"We are now competing with the top six sides in the world and now have a fantastic platform on our journey towards 2012."
