Ireland secure win over Uruguay
Ireland's women's hockey team made it three wins out of three in the Olympic qualifying tournament in Victoria by beating Uruguay 1-0 on Tuesday night.
Nikki Symmons hit Ireland's winner in the 27th minute although the dominant Irish missed numerous other chances to extend their advantage.
"We are happy that we got a win," said Ireland captain Eimear Cregan.
Cregan and her Irish team-mates will face number one seeds Korea on Thursday before taking on Italy on Saturday.
"We have taken three wins from three matches giving us the nine points and putting us in a strong position," added Cregan.
"Ideally, we would have liked to have taken more of our chances today but at the end of the day coming out with a win was our main priority."
The match saw Emma Clarke pulling on the green jersey for the 50th time.
Ireland defeated Malaysia 3-0 in their opener on Saturday before accounting for hosts Canada 2-0 on Sunday.
