Hoy to miss out on Beijing Games
Germany's Bettina Hoy was ruled out of the Olympics after her horse Ringwood Cockatoo failed to recover from injury.
The 45-year-old was looking to the Games to banish the bad memories of Athens 2004, when a rule infringement denied her individual and team gold.
Her punishment saw Britain's Leslie Law win gold, Pippa Funnell take bronze and GB's team bronze upgraded to silver.
"Ringwood Cockatoo was going relatively well but he's not at his best and I don't want to tempt fate," said Hoy.
Andreas Dibowski, with Butts Leon, will take her place in the German team who are the reining world champions.
Earlier this week, Australia's Andrew Hoy, Bettina's husband and a triple Olympic team
champion, missed out on selection for the Beijing Games.
