China claim gold in 10m synchro

Lin Yue and Huo Liang won China's seventh gold medal of the Olympics with a classy display in the 10m synchronised diving.

The pair, roared on by a packed crowd at the Water Cube, were far from perfect on their final dive but were almost out of reach by then.

Germany pipped Russia for the silver with a superb final effort.

The British pair, including 14-year-old prodigy Tom Daley, finished last of the eight teams in the competition.

China are on track to make it a clean sweep in the diving competition after Guo Jingjing and Wu Minxia won the synchronised 3m springboard on Sunday.

As Guo and Wu did, Lin and Huo dominated their event.

They scored one perfect 10 in the first round and three more in the second as they led from start to finish, winning by 18 points.

Russia's Gleb Galperin and Dmitriy Dobroskok had been chasing the Chinese pair throughout but they finished poorly, allowing Germany's Patrick Hausding and Sascha Klein to take the silver.

Australia's Mathew Helm and Robert Newbery, bronze medallists in 2004, were desperately unlucky to finish out of the medals, just 0.42 behind the Russians.
