Teen Daley qualifies for Olympics

Tom Daley will become Britain's second youngest male Olympian after qualifying in the 10m dive competition at the Fina diving World Cup.

The 13-year-old from Plymouth took bronze in the 10m synchro event but needed a top-eight finish in the individual, and finished seventh.

"I'm absolutely over the moon. I can't believe I've done it," he told the BBC.

"Just going to the Olympic Games is enough but to be the youngest ever male Olympian is absolutely phenomenal."

The youngest British male participate in an Olympics was Kenneth Lester, the cox to a rowing pair at the 1960 Games in Rome, aged 13 years and 144 days.

Daley will be aged 14 years and 81 days when the Olympic competition begins in August.

Britain's youngest ever Olympian was skater Cecilia Colledge, who competed at the 1932 Winter Games aged 11 years, 76 days.

Margery Hinton, who represented her country in the pool in Paris in 1924 at the age of 13 years, 43 days, remains Britain's youngest ever summer Olympian.
