I have never felt better - Price

David Price

Liverpool super-heavyweight David Price says he is in "the best shape of his life" ahead of the Beijing Olympics.

The 25-year-old, who is the reigning Commonwealth Games champion, will captain Great Britain's eight-man boxing team in China.

"I feel in the best shape of my life, I'm raring to go, I'm chomping at the bit," Price told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"I'm still three weeks out so I might have to put my foot on the brakes and just relax a little bit."

Price had to attend all three qualification events open to European boxers to make it to China.

He was on the brink of qualification at last year's World Championships before breaking his left hand.

He was then just one win away from qualification in Pescara in March, losing in the semi-final.

"Any negative things are in the bin, I don't want to hear them, everything now has got to be positive until the Olympics"

Price, a two time senior Amateur Boxing Association champion, finally secured his qualification in Greece in April.

He feels those set-backs, along with his vast experience of fighting across the world, will help him at the Games.

"I'm just going to treat the Olympics the same as every other tournament and just not let the occasion take hold of me because it is such a massive occasion.

"Any negative things are in the bin, I don't want to hear them, everything now has got to be positive until the Olympics."
