Indonesia grab first Games gold

Indonesia won their first gold at the Olympics in Beijing after Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan won the men's doubles badminton on Saturday.

The Indonesian world champions defeated the Chinese second seeds Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng over a tense three sets.

Despite losing the opening set, Kido and Setiawan eventually won 12-21, 21-11, 21-16.

South Korea's Lee Jae Jin and Hwang Ji Man won the bronze medal.

The Chinese pair cruised to the first game with a series of acrobatic leaping overhead smashes in front of a noisy crowd.

But the Chinese pair struggled in the second game and the Indonesians turned on the form to take a 10-5 early lead. The Chinese hit back, but Kido and Setiawan stayed strong to close out the game.

Indonesia's top seeds impressed at the start of the deciding set, and despite the Chinese steadying at the break, they soon powered to a fine victory.
