Scott aims to get Beijing boost
British hurdler Allan Scott believes the Olympic experience can make him a future contender on the big stage.
Having been left out of the initial GB pool, the Scot reached the qualifying mark for the 110m event last week.
"It's about a performance and if I can run 13.5 or 13.4 and be consistent, I'd be happy," he told BBC Sport.
"I'm 25 and there's no reason why I can't be around for 2012 and 2014. I'm pleased with where I am just now and believe I can go forward."
Scott, from East Kilbride, was second in the Olympic trials and ran 13.53 to win at Loughborough and get a late call up to the squad on Saturday.
"All year I felt I was in shape to do it but maybe I was chasing the time too hard and making mistakes," he added.
"I was more relaxed last time out. I was either going to Beijing or the golf clubs were coming out."
Stuart Hogg will be with Scott in China and the veteran coach also thinks there is more to come from his pupil.
"I've been coaching for over 30 years and I've had the pleasure of working with a few talented athletes," Hogg told BBC Sport.
"Allan rates highly. We have been working together for a year-and-a-half and we've made strides. I don't think we've seen the best of Allan yet.
"It's a first Olympics and I think he will learn a lot that he can take on to London in 2012.
"It's a tough event and it will be interesting to see how he copes with the pressure.
"If he can achieve a personal best, you can't ask for much more.
"The first target is to get through the first round in Beijing but a semi-final place is a possibility.
"And then who knows? Allan could make the final come London, although a medal might just be too much to ask."
