Gunn still on track for Beijing

Steeplechaser Luke Gunn could still be on his way to Beijing after a dramatic run in the British Olympic trials.

The Derby AC runner, 23, finished in second spot in Birmingham on Sunday, meaning he is guaranteed selection providing he makes the qualifying time.

Gunn only has until Saturday to attain the Olympic A standard time but is confident he can make the grade.

"This race was slow but if I can find the right run, I know I can do it. I think I can get the time," he said.

"There's a race in Paris on Friday and there's another race on Wednesday but I'm not sure if that's enough time to recover, so I'm looking at Paris.

"I've just got to keep my fingers crossed."

Adam Bowden won and Gunn finished just ahead of Andrew Lemoncello to claim second by less-than-half a second in a time of eight minutes and 36.52 seconds.

He set a personal best of 8:28.48 last month but must now reach the qualifying time of 8:24.60 by Saturday.
