Britain's Naomi Folkard progressed into the quarter-finals of the women's individual archery with victory over team-mate Charlotte Burgess.
Folkard kept her composure in the searing Beijing heat with a 110-96 win.
Earlier, Athens bronze medallist Alison Williamson had been knocked out by American veteran Khatuna Lorig.
South Korea's defending champion Park Sung-Hyun advanced into the last eight, but Italian world champion Natalia Valeeva was beaten by Joo Hyun-jung.
Burgess had beaten local favourite Guo Dan by 106-104 in the previous round, setting up an all-British second round after Folkard had swept aside Eygpt's Soha Abed Elaal 107-95.
"Since the support the Chinese have had makes me think that maybe I would like to stay on and compete in 2012"The duo had just missed out on the bronze medal in the women's team event, alongside Williamson, losing 203-201 to France.
"It's never nice to beat your team-mate and friend," said Folkard, 24, from Leamington Spa.
"We were extremely disappointed after the team competition, but now I've got the biggest smile on my face, and I'm ready to take each match as it comes on Thursday," said Folkard.
Williamson's campaign got off to a bad start after a 108-99 defeat by Taiwan's Wei Pi-Hsiu.
She then faced Lorig in the last elimination match, but could not get the better of her long-term rival.
"I feel like maybe it wasn't meant to be at this Olympic Games," said the 36-year-old.
I just hope that everyone back home who has supported me knows that I tried my best.
But Williamson revealed she has not ruled out the possibility of representing Britain at her sixth Olympics in London in four years time.
"I've never ruled out trying to get to 2012," she added.
"Since the support the Chinese have had makes me think that maybe I would like to stay on and compete in 2012."
