British Olympic hopeful Simon Terry says watching team-mate Alison Williamson at the Athens Games inspired him to return to archery.
Terry won double bronze at Barcelona 1992 and will make his return to Olympic competition in Beijing later this month.
"I watched Alison's Athens on television and it tickled the nerves a little bit," he told BBC Sport.
"It wasn't until the winter of that year that I decided to have a go."
The 34-year-old says his exile from the sport was caused by a loss of enjoyment.
"It was about 1994 when my performance dipped a bit because I wasn't training," he said.
"I just didn't really enjoy it anymore. Then one year turns into two - then it's 10 and by that time you're far behind everybody else."
After finding the motivation to return to competition, Terry found it difficult to gauge how well he was doing.
"I enjoyed training and I enjoyed the competitions," he said.
"It was quite a quick progression but it took a lot of training, practice and time to get up to the level.
"I'd been shooting well. But, before I got back in the team again, the other guys were never in Britain and I couldn't compare myself against them.
"My scores were good, but I liked to see how good they were against these guys.
"And then I got picked for the team and off I went. It's been a good little progression."
Terry has been training for Beijing with the rest of Team GB at the preparation camp in Macau, China, and feels better prepared for the event than he did last time around.
"In 1992, we didn't have any holding camp, we went straight into the village for a month and there was a fair bit to do, but you just shot too much generally I found," he explained.
"Now it's a lot better because we're in a harsher climate to Beijing.
"We did exactly the same last year and, when we got to Beijing, I was cold for two days even though it was 25, 26 degrees and I was wearing long-sleeved tops just to keep me warm so hopefully that will put us in good stead."
