Grainger likely to aim for 2012

Scots rower Katherine Grainger says she will probably compete for Great Britain at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Grainger won silver in the women's quadruple sculls in Beijing, adding to runners-up medals won at Athens in 2004 and Sydney in 2000 respectively.

"A decent career can see you through three Olympics," said Grainger.

"It's unusual to go on a lot longer, especially in the women's team, but I think the answer is going to be yes. I think I'm going to continue."

Following the disappointment in Beijing of missing out on gold once again, Grainger had cast doubt on the likelihood of competing at the next Olympic Games in London.

But, speaking to Edi Stark on BBC Radio Scotland's Stark Talk programme, the 32-year-old said that, while she had not made a firm decision on whether to aim for 2012, it looked likely.

"At the moment, I haven't told anyone," said Grainger.

"It's been a really tough decision and, to be honest, it's not 100% certain either way.

"I still have to meet with our team manager and make the official decision.

"I thought, after Beijing, it would be the time to say that's it.

"I thought I might feel 'never again'."

Grainger won her third successive silver competing in the quadruple sculls in Beijing.

Annie Vernon, Debbie Flood, Frances Houghton and the Scot narrowly lost out to the hosts, China, despite taking the lead for a section of the final.
