St Pat's claim first Erne title

St Patrick's star Eamon Maguire

St Patrick's won their first ever Quinn Insurance Fermanagh SFC title as they edged out Derrygonnelly 0-11 to 0-10.

Three points from Gary Maguire helped St Patrick's lead 0-7 to 0-3 at the break but they could have been further ahead as Pat Cadden missed a penalty.

St Pat's extended their lead to six but four Kevin Cassidy points helped Derrygonnelly close to within a point.

Sub Michael McGrade's point extended St Pat's lead to two and they held on to claim an emotional triumph.

St Patrick's had been beaten in six previous deciders while Derrygonnelly were aiming to repeat their 1995 and 2004 triumphs.

Gary Maguire hit the opening point of the match for St Pat's but Cadden then missed his penalty chance and the Donagh outfit hit nine first-half wides in total.

Fermanagh star Eamon Maguire, Paul Cosgrove, Pat Cadden and Jason Cadden were also on target for St Pat's in the first half while Cassidy (0-2) and Ryan Jones notched Derrygonnelly's points.

Two Pat Cadden points after half-time extended the St Pat's lead to 0-9 to 0-3 but Kevin Cassidy then hit four unanswered points for Derrygonnelly while sub Paul Ward also notched a score for the former champions.

Influential Ward had been unable to start the match because of injury.

Substitute Paul McCaffrey gave St Pat's some vital breathing space with a score to make it 0-10 to 0-8 but Ward's point at the start of injury-time left the minimum between the sides again.

Michael McGrade's point nudged St Pat's two ahead again but Ryan Jones' score in the fourth minute of injury-time had the Donagh team living on their nerves again.

Indeed, Derrygonnelly had two late opportunities to level but the chances were missed and the St Pat's players and vocal support celebrated an historic success for the club at the final whistle.
