Penrose injury concern for Tyrone

Martin Penrose (left) Tyrone boss Mickey Harte has another fitness worry after Martin Penrose was carried off with a knee injury in a county championship game on Sunday.

The forward suffered the injury in Aghyaran's 0-9 to 0-7 WJ Dolan SFC defeat by Moy at Fintona on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Carrickmore were knocked out after a shock 3-3 to 0-8 defeat by Clonoe while Cookstown secured a 0-9 to 0-6 victory over Pomeroy.

Dromore were Sunday's other winners after beating Trillick 1-15 to 0-9.

Owen McCusker hit eight points in Dromore's success with Hugh McNulty notching the goal.

Tyrone panelists the Cavanagh brothers Sean and Colm plus Philip Jordan and Ryan Mellon all lined out in Moy's victory over Aghyaran.

Sean Cavanagh and Mellon were among Moy's scorers but the result was overshadowed by the injury to Penrose which leaves the forward a major doubt for Tyrone's Ulster SFC game against Fermanagh on 20 May.

In the second game at Fintona, former Fermanagh star Raymond Gallagher was among Dromore's scorers while Tyrone player Niall Gormley hit eight of Trillick's nine points.

Tyrone injury doubt Owen Mulligan came through Cookstown's win against Pomeroy at Dungannon on Sunday night without any apparent problems.

He had his left leg heavily strapped but contributed three points, all from frees, as Cookstown came from behind to defeat Pomeroy by three points.

A bizarre own goal gave Clonoe a tenth minute lead against Carrickmore, defender Colm McGurk misdirecting a free kick past his own goalkeeper.

Clonoe went six up in the second game of a double-header at Dungannon when Ryan O'Neill blasted a second goal, but Carrickmore fought back to go ahead.

But when Tyrone star Conor Gormley was sent off for a second bookable offence, Clonoe profited, and a late goal by substitute Patrick Doris gave them victory.

Errigal Ciaran, Killyclogher, Coalisland and Ardboe claimed wins earlier in the weekend.

On Saturday, holders Errigal Ciaran squeezed through their WJ Dolan Tyrone SFC preliminary round clash with Clan na nGael by 0-8 to 0-6 at Carrickmore.

Saturday's turgid encounter was finally settled by late substitute Peter Canavan, who hit the clinching point in stoppage time.

Killyclogher scored a 1-11 to 0-10 win over Derrylaughan at the same venue.

Leo Meenan, with 1-3, and Ciaran Carland, with four points, got the vital scores for Killyclogher.

Brendan Quinn scored five points for the newly promoted Barrys.

Coalisland coasted to a 2-19 to 1-8 win over Omagh at Augher on Friday.

Goals from Plunkett Kane and Richard Thornton made it a surprisingly easy passage for the Fianna with Cathal McCarron netting for Omagh.

Ardboe breezed through to the first round by beating Stewartstown 2-13 to 0-8 in a preliminary game at Edendork.

Second half goals from Tommy McGuigan and John Cunmings killed off the challenge of the newly-promoted Harps.
