O'Brien rules Irish 2000 Guineas
20/1 shot Black Minnaloushe led home a remarkable one-two-three for trainer Aidan O'Brien in the Entenmann's Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh.
Jockey Johnny Murtagh produced a great late run to over-haul long-time leader Mozart who had looked likely to hold on entering the final furlong.
O'Brien's domination of the race was completed by 2/1 favourite Minardi who took third.
Murtagh's win was his first success in the Irish 2000 Guineas.
"Aidan told me to hold him until late on and it worked perfectly," said Murtagh.
Mozart, ridden by Seamus Heffernan, took up the running from the start and had a three length lead entering the final furlong.
But Murtagh produced a perfect run in the closing stages to more than make up for the horse's disappointing fifth place in the recent French 2000 Guineas.
Dermot Weld's 40/1 shot Maumee was fourth but English raider Tamburlaine never challenged.
Entermann's Irish 2000 Guineas result:
1 Black Minnaloushe 20/1, 2 Mozart 20/1, 3 Minardi 2/1 favourite, 4 Maumee 40/1.
