Schumacher issues title warning

German GP, 30 July, 1300 BST

Michael Schumacher celebreates his victory in the French GP Michael Schumacher has warned reigning champion Fernando Alonso that Ferrari are "charged up" and intent on helping him regain the Formula One title.

Schumacher is back on home ground for this weekend's German Grand Prix, buoyed by consecutive wins which have cut Alonso's lead to 17 points.

"Things can change quickly in Formula One and this means that even a big lead can suddenly vanish," he said.

"Our competitive spirit has been reawakened and we want the title."

Schumacher is desperate to use home advantage at Hockenheim to full effect and pile the pressure on Alonso.

"I don't think that I have to state how charged up we are," added the seven-time champion. "I believe that it is clear for all to see.

"I can sense the same thing from the team. We are all focused on our objective - to put pressure on our adversaries, make up ground and win again."

Alonso has already declared himself "very optimistic" of delivering a psychological blow to Schumacher by winning on the German's home track.

But Schumacher is urging his fans to inspire him to new heights this weekend.

"It has finally come around," he added. "For every German driver, the home race provides extra motivation.

"The psychological effect of driving here is huge. I always receive great support from our fans at Hockenheim and this lasts for the entire weekend. All the drivers enjoy competing in such conditions.

"We want to turn the championship red and Hockenheim ought to be the next step. Naturally, we also need the supporters on our side as they are very important."
