Priaulx has Estoril ballast boost

Andy Priaulx

Guernsey's reigning World Touring Car champion, Andy Priaulx, will be carrying less ballast at next week's round in Portugal.

Priaulx lies fourth in the overall drivers' standings going into races 11 and 12 at Estoril.

His car will carry an extra 34kg, 14 kg less than the last two races in Brno, in the Czech Republic.

Ballast is added to the cars of drivers who do well to try and make the racing more even.

Championship leader Gabrielle Tarquini will carry an extra 70kg next week.

Priaulx got just one point in Brno last month and has only had one race win all season as the Seat turbo diesel cars dominate the championship.

He is the highest placed non-Seat driver but his chances of winning a third successive world title are slim as he is 24 points behind Tarquini in the standings.
