Herbert on the up

Johnny Herbert
Johnny Herbert achieved his best result since returning to sportscar racing with third place in the American Le Mans Series event in Oregon.

Australian David Brabham won the race for Panoz, pipping Audi's factory team of Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro by 0.3 seconds.

His victory ended Audi's 13-month winning streak.

Herbert, who came fourth in the last race at Sears Point, was delighted with his win.

"I'm delighted - fourth two weeks ago and now onto the rostrum - I'm aiming for the top step next.

'No mistakes'

"This result shows the works Audis are not invincible.

"We were able to keep pace with the front of the pack and take advantage of their mistakes, while we didn't make any."

Herbert's co-driver Andy Wallace was also pleased with the result.

"I'm happy with the progress of the team. We need some more miles in the car to really get it handling well and then take the next step."

Audi's Rinaldo Capello, who had won every previous race in this year's series, was fifth after a gearshift problem caused a lengthy pit-stop.
