British women miss out on medal

Heather Fell missed out on a third European Championship medal after Great Britain's women finished fifth in the modern pentathlon team relay.

The trio of Fell, Katy Livingston and Louise Helyer, who had a superb showing in the swimming, ended on 5,304 points.

The Czech Republic took the gold medal with 5,698 points, with Russia coming home second and Poland in third.

Fell won individual silver and team gold with Livingston and Mhairi Spence over the weekend in Leipzig, Germany.

Britian's men's team of Gareth Evans, Russell North and Lee Ormerod finished 11th in their relay competition.

The trio, who were all making their European Championship debuts, claimed third place in the equestrian element but did not make an impression on the top of the leaderboard overall, with Lithuania claiming gold ahead of Hungary and the Czech Republic.
