Singh earns Deutsche Bank glory

Vijay Singh recorded his second straight PGA Tour title with victory at the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Singh fired a final-round 63 in Boston to finish on 22 under par, five shots ahead of Canadian Mike Weir.

It was Singh's third win in five events after clinching the Barclays last week.

"I feel incredible. It was a tough day," said the 45-year-old Fijian.

"I drove the ball beautifully all day and never got into much trouble."

Singh now has 34 career victories, the same number as Phil Mickelson. Among active players, only Tiger Woods has more.

Singh also took an almost insurmountable lead in the race for the $10m (£5.5m) bonus awarded to the winner of the four-event end-of-season play-offs with two tournaments to go.

He was one shot behind Weir going into the back nine, but three massive birdie putts saw him overhaul the Canadian.

Colombia's Camilo Villegas, who had been one shot behind Weir going into the final day, finished eight shots off the lead along with South African Ernie Els.

Sergio Garcia, who on Sunday earned automatic selection into Nick Faldo's European Ryder Cup team, was a further shot behind, along with Tim Herron.

Scotland's Martin Laird and England's Brian Davis both finished on three under par.
