European Ryder Cup team - Faldo's few

The European Ryder Cup race is over and 12 good men and true will represent the continent against the US at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, from 19-21 September.

The scrabble for places ended at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles on Sunday, with Justin Rose, Soren Hansen and Oliver Wilson sealing the last three automatic qualifying spots.

Captain Nick Faldo then added Ian Poulter and Paul Casey as his two wildcards alongside Padraig Harrington, Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, Henrik Stenson, Robert Karlsson, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Graeme McDowell.

That gives Europe a total of 20 caps between them, four debutants and three major titles, though they all belong to Harrington.

Europe go into the match as favourites after winning the last three Ryder Cups, and the last two by record-equalling 18½-9½ margins.

They have also won five of the last six events, but playing in America is no easy task and Faldo's men still face a stern challenge, even against a side without the injured world number one Tiger Woods.

Here, BBC Sport profiles Europe's Ryder Cup side.
