American star Perry to snub Open

Kenny Perry with the Buick Open trophy

In-form American Kenny Perry has opted not to travel to England to play in the Open in a fortnight's time.

Perry, 47, won his second PGA Tour title in five weeks on Sunday and is fourth in the US Ryder Cup standings.

But he has chosen to play in the US Bank Championship in Milwaukee rather than make the trip to Royal Birkdale.

"I've already committed to Milwaukee and I'm not going to back out on them. Next year I'll probably play all the majors," said the world number 19.

Perry missed the cut on his Open debut at Birkdale in 1991 and did not appear at the tournament again until 2003.

He was eighth at Sandwich and 16th and 11th the following two years, but bowed out at the halfway stage at Hoylake in 2006 and did not feature last year.
