Rookie Lewis heads US Open field

Rookie Stacy Lewis fired a six-under 67 to seize a one-shot lead ahead of fellow American Paula Creamer after the third round of the US Women's Open.

The 23-year-old, playing in her first professional tournament, is nine under par, with Swede Helen Alfredsson and South Korean Inbee Park two shots back.

Halfway leader Angela Park hit a 75 to slip back to four under, while Annika Sorenstam is two under par.

Scotland's Catriona Matthew stands on one over, tied for 24th place.

Lewis, with her father as her caddie, was in tremendous form on the greens in a flawless six-birdie round.

She had only 23 putts as she continued the form that helped America to win the Curtis Cup at St Andrews in June.

Creamer, 21, missed birdie chances at the 17th and 18th but the five-time LPGA Tour winner will fancy her chances of breaking her major duck.
