McDowell fourth in Qatar Masters

Graeme McDowell Graeme McDowell shot a final round of five-under-par 67 to finish in a tie for fourth position on 12 under par at the Qatar Masters in Doha on Sunday.

McDowell carded six birdies and a bogey in his final 18 holes to follow earlier rounds of 73, 68 and 68.

Dubliner Paul McGinley ended four shots worse off on eight under after recording a last round of 69.

Retief Goosen won the tournament on 15 under from Nick O'Hern on 14 under and Ernie Els on 13 under.

McDowell was joined on 12 under by Australians Richard Green and Stuart Appleby.

Darren Clarke missed the halfway cut.

"Over 72 holes I am very content with the way I played but I'm disappointed with the way I started as I gave Retief Goosen an eight-shot lead on the first day," said McDowell.

"I managed to claw my way back into the tournament and can't complain about how I played over the last three days. I gave myself loads of chances and the improvement is there to be seen.

"I have missed being in the mix on the back nine on Sundays and that is what I am setting out to do this year, get myself there as often as possible and win a few trophies.

"This is a tough game and you have to take the rough with the smooth but it has been more rough than smooth over the past year.

"I am confident going to Dubai which is another course which rewards good ball striking. Things are good with the putter and with my short game too."
