Japan's Yusaku Miyazato surged up the leaderboard with an astonishing two holes-in-one in six holes in the second round of the Reno-Tahoe Open.

It is believed to be the first time in PGA Tour history that a player has hit two aces in the same round.

Miyazato used a four-iron on the 230-yard 7th and a seven-iron on the 173-yard 12th to get to five under for the tournament.

Bob Estes fired a seven-under-par 65 to hold the lead at 15 under.

American Will MacKenzie, one stroke clear at the start of the day after an opening-round 63, is now one shot behind after shooting a 68.

John Cook is in third after his second successive 66 at Montreux Golf and Country Club.

Miyazato is six strokes off the pace after his double hole-in-one formed part of a round of 66.

"The first ace was the second of my career and the second one today was unbelievable," Miyazato said.

"The second one was uphill, so I couldn't see it go into the cup. I ran to the green and was very surprised that it went in."

American Bob Tway had two holes-in-one at the 1994 Memorial tournament and compatriot Glen Day did the same at the Greater Hartford Open later that year.

But PGA Tour officials have no record of any player achieving the feat in the same round.
