Sweden's Carl Pettersson boosted his bid to make Europe's Ryder Cup team by finishing tied for eighth place at the Open at Hoylake.
The 28-year-old carded a final-round 69 to finish on nine under - two behind leading European Sergio Garcia.
Finland's Mikko Ilonen finished on six under after a mixed 72, which had four birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey.
Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez made three birdies in the last four holes to finish his campaign on one under.
Jimenez, who was challenging for the lead after the first two rounds, had six bogeys in his closing 74, including four in row between the 11th and 14th.
Denmark's Thomas Bjorn carded three bogeys and four birdies in a round of 71 to end up on one under.
Sweden's Robert Karlsson had two birdies in his final three holes for a 74 that put him on two under while Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal ended on one over after a closing 72.
American-based Pettersson, who was ninth on the European world list before the start of play at Royal Liverpool, said thoughts of the Ryder Cup kept him going after carding a bogey at the 1st and double bogey at the 3rd.
"At three over after three, it would have been easy to let it go and shoot 80," he said.
"Of course I was thinking about the Ryder Cup. It's impossible not to think about it and I knew I had to dig deep. To be six under for the last 12 holes was a good effort.
"That's why I came back to Europe - I played in the Scottish Open last week and I'll be playing in the next two events to try and increase my chances of making the team."
