Warren to take on stars in China

Marc Warren Challenge Tour winner Marc Warren will be playing alongside the world's top stars at the HSBC Champions Tournament in China next month.

The Scot topped the European Tour's second-tier competition after the final event in Italy, earning the right to face the likes of Tiger Woods in China.

Warren, 24, beat Spain's Carl Suneson to head the Challenge Tour rankings.

"It's going to be pretty special," said the Lanarkshire pro, who also earned a full European Tour card for next year.

"It's going to be a brilliant chance to see what the difference is between players at that level and the level I have been playing at regularly for the past few years."

Warren won twice on the Challenge Tour this year and topped the rankings by just 448 euros from Suneson, who finished one ahead of the Scot at the San Domenico Golf Club to win the Grand Final.

Warren's season took off when he teamed up with top coach Bob Torrance, father of Sam, in June.

"It's an amazing feeling to be the best player on the Challenge Tour considering the amount of good players there are out here," said Warren, a 2001 Walker Cup star, who rocketed from 88th in the standings.

"It's a tremendous feeling and I didn't think it was possible six months ago.

"I never doubted myself, but I did question whether or not it would be this year.

"Then I managed to get in touch with Bob Torrance and if you look at the dates it is no coincidence that that was the key factor in changing things around for me."

The top 20 on the Challenge Tour rankings receive their European Tour card for 2006.
