The International team finished day two of the Presidents Cup with a 6½-5½ lead over the US - even though Tiger Woods ended his long wait for a fourball win.
Woods battled with a sore back as he and Jim Furyk, who had been doubtful with a rib injury, saw off Australians Stuart Appleby and Mark Hensby 3&2.
But International pairings Retief Goosen and Adam Scott then Peter Lonard and Nick O'Hern won in Virginia.
The other two matches were halved to keep Gary Player's team just ahead.
South African Goosen and Australia's Scott defeated Fred Couples and David Toms 3&1 in Gainesville, while Australians Lonard and O'Hern beat Davis Love III and Kenny Perry 3 &2.
US PGA champion Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco staged a late rally to halve their match with US Open winner Michael Campbell of New Zealand and Argentina's Angel Cabrera, who had been two up with four to play.
Vijay Singh of Fiji and South African Tim Clark also settled for a halve with Fred Funk and Stewart Cink.

Earlier, it was feared Furyk might be forced to withdraw from the fourball because of a rib injury.
But he responded well to treatment and showed no signs of pain as he partnered Woods to the world number one's first fourball win in seven attempts in the Presidents Cup.
Instead it was Woods who took on the role of the walking wounded and after the match he revealed he would have struggled to play without the help of PGA Tour physiotherapist Tom LaFountain.
The trainer treated Woods' rib injury with ice packs throughout the match.
"I have a couple rib heads that are out and causing some spasm," Woods said.
"Tom did an awesome job of getting me to where I could swing the golf club which was not exactly easy to do."
The International team began the day with a 3½-2½ advantage.
Dangerous weather then delayed play with the US and International teams each leading in three of the six fourball matches.
Play resumed after 80 minutes.
