Langer eyes Ryder job

Bernhard Langer has declared his interest in captaining Europe's Ryder Cup team.

"It is a challenge that I would love to accept and I think I would be a good candidate for the job," he told a German sports website.

The German veteran of 10 Ryder Cup competitions was part of Europe's victorious team at The Belfry in September.

He earned 3½ points out of four in Europe's 15½-12½ win over the United States.

Langer and Welshman Ian Woosnam - vice-captain to Sam Torrance this year - are regarded as the two main contenders.

Woosnam said in October that he would like to be considered for the post.

Europe will defend the Ryder Cup against the United States at Oak Hill, Michigan, in 2004.
