Justin Leonard's final round two-under-par 69 was enough to record his second successive Texas Open title.
The 29-year-old, who led overnight, finished with an 18-under-par total of 266 to finish two shots ahead of fellow Texan JJ Henry and former U.S. Amateur champion Matt Kuchar.
Leonard became the first golfer since Arnold Palmer in 1962 to win back-to-back Texas Opens and the first US PGA Tour player since Tiger Woods at the NEC World Golf Championship in August to win the same event in consecutive years.
Both Henry (66) and Kuchar (69) guaranteed their tour cards for 2002 by finishing joint second.
Leonard began the day two shots ahead of Kuchar and appeared to be cruising to a comfortable win after going four clear with birdies on the first and fifth holes.
Things got more difficult when Henry birdied the ninth and 14th to cut the deficit to two shots.
Leonard two-putted for a birdie on the par-five 14th but gave it back when he left his approach shot well short to bogey the 16th, again leaving him just two strokes ahead of Henry and Kuchar.
