World Cup - Other BBC programmes

The BBC has a breadth of programming built around the World Cup as well as screens around the country for the big matches in Germany.

Programmes with special features include Blue Peter, which has a World Cup Show on 21 June:

  • Blue Peter Football Slogan competition Themed on the concept of Fair Play, the winning slogan will sit on the Football Association's website.
  • Blue Peter ­ Me On TV: A Trinidad And Tobago Story Dennis Lawrence's eight-year-old daughter Celine shows Gethin what it's like to live in Wrexham and have a dad playing in the World Cup.
  • Blue Peter ­ How To Be A Referee With Graham Poll The English referee will teach the programmes presenters some key skills.

    Other CBBC shows will also be dedicating time to the World Cup and the stars of Blue Peter will be joined by those from Level Up, Smile, Mighty Truck Of Stuff, the Chuckle Brothers, Smart, Raven and Basil Brush to sing a special song dedicated to the love of the beautiful game.

    There is also a Level Up/Football Focus Young Commentary competition and Smile, CBBC's Sunday morning entertainment show, will have a host of football-related features.

    Chris Moyles will be broadcasting the Radio One Breakfast Show from a holiday chalet 40km east of Stuttgart from the opening day of the tournament. He will spend three days at the Herford Army base in northern Germany and 1XTRA will also be broadcasting from around Germany.

    BBC Two is showing six hour-long documentaries tracing the social and cultural background to the achievement's of some of the biggest nations in World Cup history:

  • England - Going All The Way Sunday 7 May
    Including interviews with Tom Finney, Bobby Robson, Bobby Charlton, Gordon Banks & Peter Shilton
  • Brazil - The Golden Team Sunday 14 May
    Including interviews with Carlos Alberto, Tostao, Rivelino & Socrates
  • France - Black, White and Blue Sunday 21 May, 2100 BST
    Featuring Zinedine Zidane, Michel Platini & Aime Jacquet
  • Argentina - From Darkness Into The Light Sunday 28 May, 2100 BST
    Including interviews with Mario Kempes, Luis Fillol, Alberto Tarrantini, Ossie Ardiles & Jorge Valdano
  • Germany - The Will To Win Sunday 4 June, 2100 BST
    Including interviews with Paul Breitner, Sepp Maier, Ari Haan & Ruud Kroll
  • Italy - The Enemy Within Sunday 11 June, 2200 BST
    Including interviews with Dino Zoff, Guiseppe Bergomi, Claudio Gentile, Marco Tardelli & Salvatore Schillaci
