Goalkeeper receives death threat

Edgar Estrada
Guatemala international goalkeeper Edgar 'El Gato' Estrada has received death threats following his team's 5-2 defeat to Costa Rica.

The result effectively eliminated Guatemala from the 2002 World Cup finals.

He was told that the decisive defeat was his fault and that he would be killed because of it.

Estrada's father revealed that the threats were delivered to a workshop owned by the goalkeeper.

The result puts Costa Rica into the final qualification phase, in the Concacaf group, for the 2002 World Cup.

They will meet the United States, Mexico, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Honduras.

The top three teams qualify for the 2002 World Cup finals to be co-hosted by Japan and South Korea.
