Douglas beat Peel to stay second

The Sure Mobile Women's League's second-placed Douglas Royal beat third-placed Peel 2-0 on Sunday.

Goals from Bekki Cole and Donna Shimmin were enough to secure the points for the Whites at Douglas Road.

Donna Harrison scored seven for the second week running as leaders Rushen hammered lowly Michael United 17-0.

Siobhann Lockwood (four), Dawn Georgeson (three), Sam Macdonald, Hannah Griffiths and Hannah Biggerstaff also scored for the visitors.

The results keep Royal just a point behind Rushen at the top with a game in hand and three points clear of Peel.

Elsewhere, Gymns look certain to be playing top-flight football when it splits in the new year after cruising to a 4-1 win over Castletown.

Kim Carney inspired the Tromode side to victory with a hat-trick and she was joined on the scoresheet by Rachel Beckley. Tricia Fleming netted for the Stadium outfit who now look confined to another season of second tier football.

Corinthians clocked up the biggest scoreline of the afternoon, defeating winless Ramsey 19-0 with Jade Burden contributing 10 of the goals.

Leonie Roberts, Sarah Kerford and Anna Dillon all scored twice and Stephanie Hall, Jane Bottomley and Lauren Christian also got on the scoresheet.

Colby collected a rare victory, defeating 1-0 Laxey courtesy of a first-half strike by Nikki Cooil.
