Arsenal and Everton set up final

By Tony Leighton

Women's football

Holders Arsenal will meet Everton in the final of the Women's Premier League Cup after two contrasting semi-finals.

Two goals in each half gave the Gunners a comfortable 4-0 victory at home against Liverpool.

But the Toffees had to battle through extra time to win 2-1 at Watford after the tie had been all square at 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes.

In the only Premier League game of the weekend, leaders Bristol Academy won 3-0 at bottom club Charlton Athletic.

Arsenal 4-0 Liverpool

Arsenal reached the final for the fourth successive season without moving into top gear.

Wales captain Jayne Ludlow gave the Gunners an eighth-minute lead, then three minutes before half-time England striker Lianne Sanderson doubled the advantage with her 21st goal of the season.

England winger Rachel Yankey added the third goal in the 68th minute and Republic of Ireland defender Yvonne Tracey completed the scoring six minutes from time.

Watford 1-2 Everton (aet)

England midfielder Jill Scott shot Everton ahead after a 23rd minute corner by left-winger Michelle Evans had been only half cleared.

But underdogs Watford hit back in determined fashion and drew level when midfielder Emma Beckett forced the ball home in a 65th-minute goalmouth scramble.

Everton could have wrapped up victory four minutes into the second half of extra time but England left-back Rachel Unitt missed a penalty.

The tie was decided by substitute Toni Duggan, who hit the winner two minutes from the final whistle with a great individual goal.

Charlton Athletic 0-3 Bristol Academy

Former Charlton player Justine Lorton was among the scorers as Bristol increased their lead at the top of the table to five points.

Jessica Fishlock opened the scoring with a 24th-minute shot that flew in off the crossbar.

Lorton increased the lead from close range three minutes before half-time and Corinne Yorston hit the third goal from a 77th-minute penalty.

The result continued Charlton's woes, the Addicks having now lost all 12 of their League games to date.

With no goals scored and 58 conceded, they lie 15 points behind the safety places and, with only 10 games left, are staring relegation in the face.
