Critchell's York debut is delayed

Kyle Critchell will have to wait for his debut for York City after Tuesday's game against Weymouth was postponed.

The defender, 20, has joined York on a month's loan from Wrexham after missing several months with an ankle injury.

City manager Martin Foyle told BBC Radio York: "A big thank you to Wrexham for going 50/50 on Kyle's wages. That's how the deal materialised."

Defender Ben Purkiss is doubtful for the Weymouth game but skipper Mark Greaves is fit again.

York were going into Tuesday night's game just three points above the Blue Square Premier relegation zone. And Foyle has threatened to bring in more players during the January transfer window if the current ones do not perform, suggesting that Critchell's arrival may not be the last.

"With Ben Purkiss struggling as well, it was something we had to do," he said. "I don't think we can leave things any longer. Things need to change."

Foyle, who is pursuing several other players, was pleased with the two displays against league leaders Burton Albion over Christmas but less happy at losing at home to Altrincham.

York would have gone above Weymouth if the had won the game.

Critchell, 21, who began his career at Southampton, spent the whole of last season at Weymouth after signing from Chesterfield, before moving on to Wrexham last summer.
