Brodie named in England C squad

Richard Brodie

York forward Richard Brodie has been named in the England C squad for the friendly against Bosnia-Hercegovina on 16 September in Sarajevo.

The former Newcastle Benfield man, 21, is one of 16 players in the squad for the non-league Under-23 side.

He will hope to impress enough to be included in the forthcoming International Challenge Trophy qualifying game in Italy in November.

He scored twice for York over the bank holiday weekend.

After the 1-1 draw with Barrow, he told BBC Radio York: "I've been playing on the left side and unfortunately Daniel McBreen hurt his knee so I was asked to go back up front.

"I thought I'd give it a go and two minutes in - the best possible start for a striker. It's the best feeling in the world when the ball hits the back of the net.

"When you're a striker and the ball hits that goal its brilliant.

"I think this squad that we've got with the four strikers is one of the best in the league and I think it will take us a long way this season."

England C squad: Cronin (Ebbsfleet), Bartlett (Kidderminster), Brayford (Burton), Robinson (Weymouth), Gleeson (Cambridge United), D'Laryea (Mansfield), Foster (Oxford), Tremarco (Wrexham), Smith (Ebbsfleet), Penn (Kidderminster), Stevens (Crawley), Brodie (York), Moore (Ebbsfleet), Cole (Stevenage), Harrad (Burton), Arnold (Mansfield).
