Wycombe have handed Wigan midfielder Lewis Montrose a two-year deal on a free transfer after he went back on a pre-contract agreement at Chesterfield.
The 20-year-old played 12 games for the Spireites on loan, and had agreed to join them when his Latics deal expired.
But new boss John Sheridan told his club website: "I only want players who wish to play 100% for Chesterfield. Clearly that's not the case here."
Opposite number Peter Taylor said: "I hope with some games he will kick on."
Since signing the pre-contract, the Spireites have changed manager and Montrose has changed his agent.

After signing the pre-contract in April, he had said: "I am delighted to be joining Chesterfield on a long-term basis as I have really enjoyed being with the club on loan and everyone has made me feel so welcome.
"I am looking forward to progressing my career with the Spireites and want to play my part in seeing us get promoted next season."
