Wrexham confirm bold Musampa bid

Kiki Musampa

Manager Dean Saunders is planning an audacious bid to sign former Premier League winger Kiki Musampa for Wrexham.

The non-league club hope to sign the former Dutch Under-21 star on a short-term deal as Musampa tries to attract interest from a Football League club.

The ex-Manchester City man, a graduate of the renowned Ajax football academy, watched Wrexham beat York last week.

Chairman Geoff Moss said: "Kiki is out of contract and trying to find a club, it would only be a short-term thing."

Free agent Musampa has called on new Wrexham boss Saunders to put him in the shop window by playing a few games for the Blue Square Premier side.

Is Wrexham's Kiki Musampa coup just a publicity stunt?
Moss told the Wrexham Evening Leader: "Dean was approached by a friend of Kiki's to see if he could get him fixed up.

"It is with a view to Dean helping Kiki find a Premiership or Championship club and to help us get a few more points on the board.

"And Dean said 'come and play for me for about six games, and I will try and get you fixed up'.

"We intend on Kiki coming in for about half-a-dozen games to put himself in the shop window.

"We are looking to improve and strengthen the team and there is a short- term goal to get points on the board and make sure we are in the mix at Christmas."

Should Wrexham complete their Musampa coup, it would be Saunders' third signing since replacing Brian Little in the Racecourse hot-seat.

Former Manchester United trainee defender Ashley Westwood is set to sign while highly-rated Swansea teenager Joe Allen has joined on loan.
